OUIL401: Finding resorces/research

Researching modern satire for my chosen quote has made me question it's power and impact. It doesn't seem to be as cutting as it once was and this made me wonder why, especially with the internet being a source of infinite information.

After reading a few newspaper and magazine articles there were some consistent themes coming through from the authors.

Respect for and interaction with the political establishment is at a low point
Factually inaccurate, quick fire, attention grabbing journalism have cheapened proper journalism
Some political figures have become hard to satirise because of their extreme and unusual views and behaviour

In other words, the political elite are no longer respected the way they used to be and have become easy targets meaning satire has less impact

It is different for more extremist political figures such as Putin and Le Pen who operate on a dark wave of fascism that seems to be gaining momentum
